Has it always been this hot in Charleston in the summer? Or is this year especially sweltering?  It seems like that’s all anyone can talk about.  I maintain that it is this hot every year and I, for one, have decided to block it out (the heat) knowing that before we know it we will be wishing summer back for another year.  Here are some things I’ve been focusing on while ignoring the temperature outside.

The best boutique in La Jolla, CA; KERUT.  I found this Rag & Bone fedora (as seen on Fergie in SELF mag) when I was there last month along with an abundance of cool Cali lines, unique finds and crave-worthy indulgences.

 

 

Ombré… anything!  Hair or nails.. I love it all.  Our favorite stylish California “it” girl has it down.

I found these temporary powders and am anxious to try them out.

That Island Getaway I Was Talking About..

Well, as it turns out I’m one of the lucky ones who gets to go on a mid-winter (is it winter here?) island getaway.  That’s right, I’ll be basking in the sun on the island of Roatan in less than 24 hours!  My parents have a house there and it’s prime bronzing season.  Since the store is closed for renovations anyway, Adrianne and I leave tomorrow.  I can’t wait to wear all of the new gear we’ve been getting in.

I’ll be wearing these Level 99 jeggings in lipstick on the plane.  Planes are never the perfect temperature so I prefer to wear pants even if I am headed somewhere tropical.  These bright red ones are perfect!  Did I mention I could sleep in them they’re so comfortable?  I probably will sleep in them considering our flight to Houston is at 6am.  I’m a seasoned traveler and have trained myself to fall asleep immediately when I get on a plane, train, bus or any moving vehicle that I’m not driving.

I’m bringing this Plenty by Tracy Reese chemise dress for my Mom.. because she deserves it!  Older Mature ladies have issues with showing their arms.. so this is perfect.

We usually venture to the West End one night to my dad’s favorite restaurant on the island, The Vintage Pearl.  I like to get dressed up for the locals so I’ll be wearing this dress.. another from Plenty by Tracy Reese.

 

Oh what’s that?  I have to wear a swimsuit in the middle of January?  No worries, I’ll be bringing one of my favorites from the new line we picked up in Vegas last August!  So, SO excited for all of you to find your perfect swimsuit at Sam’s Closet this year.  Seriously, these fit perfectly and give you whatever you need (boost, support, coverage) in all the right places.

I will probably own every color and pattern by the end of the summer.  Much like sunglasses, I have a problem with owning more swimsuits than I could ever possibly need.  The best thing about these?  All of the solid colors can go back with at least one pattern.  So mix and match and you could wear a different combination every day on the beach!  Love.

 

Let’s see.. because I habitually over pack for everything I’ll probably throw in these wedges by Elaine Turner, just in case.  Because you never know when you’ll be invited somewhere fancy on an island.  And God forbid you don’t have the right shoes.  (Does everyone think like this, or is it just me?)

Since I’ve spent all this time telling you all what I’m packing instead of actually packing I must go throw everything into my suitcase and get to sleep early for my 4am wake-up call!  See you all on FRIDAY, February 3rd when we reopen!  Y’all are going to be obsessed with the changes we’ve made!  Plus, in case you missed my facebook post yesterday, we got Level 99 colored denim in Aqua, Tangerine, Grey, White and more Lipstick!  My roommate Grace has already claimed one of each.  Come get ‘em!  Also, new stingray bracelets from Leighelena that are sure to get you in the mood for Valentine’s Day.  It’s comin’ in hot.  And we don’t think there’s any shame in telling your boyfriend/husband/manfriend exactly what you want (from Sam’s Closet).  Have a fabulous week!

2012 Starts Off With a BANG

Here on King St. January is well, pretty dead.  Everyone slows down this month after the holiday insanity.  Amidst doing inventory (dread) and paying taxes (really dread), we had some fun downtown today shooting pictures of our gorge model for the website and ads.  I missed seeing Mary around over the Holidays and she was just as fun and as easy to work with as always, even though it was quite cold out this morning.  Can’t wait for the pics to be ready!  Until then, here are some behind the scenes shots I took in between styling.

The sun was playing some tricks on my camera, but you get the idea.  I LOURVE this outfit.  (I should, I picked it.  Just sayin’.)  But seriously, the color blocking is ah-mazing.  The top is Annie Griffin, the snood is cashmere by KOKUN and the pea coat is Ali Ro. These Henry & Belle white jeans are seriously to die for.  All white everything; stitching and label included.  The Elaine Turner cork wedges?  You’ll wear them with everything!

 

These green Level 99 jeggings are so cool..  St. Patty’s day anyone?  (I know it’s a month and a half away, but can you find green when you really need it?  No.  So go ahead and get them now.)  Shout out to Blue Mercury for letting us use their window.. those blue potters looked great with the KOKUN cashmere sweater we chose for Mary.  Are you lucky enough to be going on a fabulous cruise or an island getaway this month?  This Elaine Turner bag will take you everywhere you need to go.

The construction continues at Sermet’s Corner and we live with the constant sound of drilling and hammering and a never ending string of debris and construction workers.   So we (I) figured if you can’t beat ‘em,  join ‘em!  We will be closed next week to build out our dressing rooms!  So… shop online or call me if you have to have something and want me to open the store just for you.  VIP, that’s right.  Until we reopen on February 3rd, check out our website for new arrivals and sale items!
